President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Mathias Cormann, on Thursday (11/28) at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. The meeting focused on discussions regarding Indonesia’s economic developments and its accession to the OECD.
Following the meeting, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, who accompanied the President on the meeting, stated that the discussion was a follow-up to a report previously presented by the OECD Secretary-General to the Minister of Finance. The report highlighted that Indonesia’s economic targets up to 2025 are fundamentally on track for positive growth.
“The report indicates that the economic targets for 2025 are fundamentally attainable, aligning with projections from the IMF and the World Bank,” Airlangga remarked.
He further noted that the OECD provided several strategic insights, including recommendations for enhancing productivity across various sectors. The discussion highlighted several key priority sectors, including digitalization, food security, energy resilience, and other flagship government programs.
“The OECD can offer benchmarks using data from its member countries. There are 38 countries,” he added.
Airlangga went on by mentioning that President Prabowo and the OECD Secretary-General also discussed Indonesia’s ongoing accession process to the OECD. “We will await further directives from the President regarding the next steps, including timelines and other related aspects,” he explained.
Separately, OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann highlighted Indonesia’s growth over recent decades, particularly in its positive economic transformation. He expressed optimism that Indonesia’s accession to the OECD would contribute to robust and inclusive economic growth.
“This will also support Indonesia’s aspiration to become a high-income advanced economy by 2045, in line with the 2045 Indonesia Vision agenda,” the Secretary-General stated. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/ABD) (AY/LW)
