President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from delegates of Japan-Indonesia Association (JAPINDA) at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (12/05).
The meeting discussed several joint work initiatives including investment, irrigation, land management and national energy strategic projects. Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani who joined President Prabowo at the meeting stated that the discussion was very productive and even the President showed appreciation for the long-term contribution of Japanese companies in Indonesia.
“Mr. President, in the first place, appreciates Japanese big companies that have made a long-term contribution in Indonesia. They were updating some of their current and planned investments,” the Minister stated to the media crew at the Presidential Palace area in Jakarta.
The Minister then continued that in this meeting, they also discussed the continuation of the Masela Block project, which has been planned since 2000. JAPINDA expressed hope that the project could start next year and be completed in the next few years since the project will also have a huge impact on Indonesia.
Minister Rosan also stated that President Prabowo invited Japanese companies to participate in the Great Giant Sea Wall project, a construction that stretches 600 kilometers to protect Jakarta areas from flood.
In addition to the economic sector, the discussion also covered education and health sectors. President Prabowo proposed the establishment of Japanese schools and universities in Indonesia as part of human resource development.
“Mr. President also invited Japan to open schools and universities in Indonesia since several universities from the US and the UK will be established in Indonesia. So, Japan is also expected to participate and give a positive response,” the Minister said.
Joining President Prabowo in the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Vice Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara.
