President Prabowo Subianto held a bilateral meeting with Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) António Guterres on Sunday (17/11) at a hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The meeting was held during President Prabowo’s visit to attend the G20 Summit in Brazil.
During the meeting, President Prabowo expressed appreciation for Guterres’ dedication to supporting international peace and justice.
“We deeply appreciate, respect, and support your consistent stance in upholding international peace, justice, and international law. This is truly inspiring to us,” said the President.
He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting UN efforts, including issues such as food security, poverty alleviation, human rights violations, and the crisis in Palestine. He emphasized Indonesia’s readiness to contribute, including through the deployment of peacekeeping troops if necessary.
Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, in his response, praised Indonesia’s strategic role in international cooperation. Guterres considered Indonesia a very important partner for the UN.
“We share common ground with Indonesia on the key global issues we are facing today,” Guterres said.
He also highlighted Indonesia’s active contribution to ASEAN-UN cooperation and its important role in addressing the situation in Myanmar and the Middle East region. He expressed the UN’s readiness to continue strengthening cooperation with Indonesia in pursuing reform of the UN Security Council and international financial institutions to achieve global justice.
“Indonesia has played a pivotal role in the upcoming summit, and we look forward to continuing to work with Indonesia in preparations for future reforms,” he remarked. (BPMI/ABD) (EST/LW)
