President Jokowi Expresses Appreciation for Inflation Control Efforts in Indonesia

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Friday (06/14), expressed appreciation to the Central Inflation Control Team and Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) for their tremendous efforts in controlling inflation in Indonesia.

“First of all, I would like to extend my highest appreciation to the Central Inflation Control Team and Regional Inflation Control Team that have been working hard and putting a great deal of efforts to control inflation,” President Joko Widodo said during the opening of the National Coordination Meeting on Inflation Control of 2024 and TPID Award, at the State Palace, Jakarta.

The President mentioned that the inflation in Indonesia has been successfully curbed to the rate of 2.84 percent in May, adding that the rate was one of the best achievements at the global stage.

“In the last of May, our inflation was stood at 2.84 percent. This is one of the best achievements in the world. We may recall that nine or ten years ago, our inflation rate was at 9.6 percent. Bank Indonesia Governor, correct? Nine point six percent. Finally, with our great efforts, once again, the rate was at 2.84 [percent],” he added.

President Jokowi further mentioned that Minister of Home Affairs also monitors the inflation control efforts.

“I knew that every week, Minister of Home Affairs checked the inflation rate one by one in each province, regency, and city; the figures were revealed so we all knew,” he said.

President Jokowi also added that in every working visit he paid to the provinces, regencies, and cities, he always asks the regional leaders about the inflation rate and economic growth.

“I always ask about it, so we are all aware of such important issue, because, for instance, if the inflation rate surges to 9.6 [percent], but our economic growth rate is at 5 [percent], it will be hard, the people will be affected. Currently, the inflation rate is at 2.84 [percent], the economic growth rate is at 5.11 percent. See, this is exhilarating. It is exhilarating when the rate like this,” the President explained.

At the opening ceremony, President Jokowi handed out TPID Award to best 15 provinces, regencies, and cities that have successfully controlled inflation in their respective areas. The award recipients are as follows.

1. TPID of Tanah Datar regency for Best TPID at Regency/City level of 2024 in Sumatra area;
2. TPID of Kebumen regency for Best TPID at Regency/City level of 2024 in Java-Bali areas;
3. TPID of Kutai Kartanegara regency for Best TPID at Regency/City level of 2024 in Kalimantan area;
4. TPID of Boalemo regency for Best TPID at Regency/City level of 2024 in Sulawesi area;
5. TPID of Lombok regency for Best TPID at Regency/City level of 2024 in Nusa Tenggara-Maluku-Papua areas;
6. TPID of Pekanbaru city for High-achieving TPID at Regency/City Level of 2024 in Sumatra area;
7. TPID of Madiun city for High-achieving TPID at Regency/City Level of 2024 in Java-Bali areas;
8. TPID of Banjarmasin city for High-achieving TPID at Regency/City Level of 2024 in Kalimantan area;
9. TPID of Bone regency for High-achieving TPID at Regency/City Level of 2024 in Sulawesi area;
10. TPID of Mataram city for High-achieving TPID at Regency/City Level of 2024 in Nusa Tenggara-Maluku-Papua areas;
11. TPID of Riau Islands province for High-achieving TPID at Province Level of 2024 in Sumatra area;
