The Government has officially revoked the mining business permits (IUP) of four companies operating in Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua Province.
The companies in question are PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa, and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining.
According to Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, the decision was directly made by President Prabowo Subianto
“Yesterday, the President chaired a limited meeting to discuss the mining business permits in Raja Ampat regency. Following the President’s directive, the Government will revoke the mining permits of these four companies,” said the Minister at the Presidential Palace Compound in Jakarta, Tuesday (06/10).
The revocation process was carried out through coordinated efforts and objective data collection in the field.
Prasetyo also explained that the President had previously assigned relevant ministries to collect data and information objectively on site.
“The President has assigned relevant ministers — Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Minister of Environment, Minister of Forestry, and also myself as Minister of State Secretariat along with the Cabinet Secretary — to continue coordinating, seeking information, and collecting data in the field as objectively as possible,” he added.
Prasetyo also stated that the Government had issued a Presidential Regulation on forest area management in January this year that includes regulation of natural resource-based businesses.
“Regarding the current public attention on mining permits in Raja Ampat, this is part of the regulatory enforcement process being implemented by the Government,” he said, while expressing appreciation for the public’s concern and input regarding mining activities in the conservation area, including from social activists.
“On behalf of the Government, we thank the public who continue providing input and information to the Government, especially the social media activists who have conveyed their concerns and suggestions,” he said, while urging the public to remain critical and wise in receiving information circulating in the public space and to stay vigilant in verifying the real conditions on the ground.
