Indonesian Olympics athletes have expressed optimism about their chances at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.
Badminton athlete playing for men’s singles Jonathan Christi expressed optimism, saying that Indonesia’s badminton team is well prepared to meet players from other countries.
“As of today, we have practiced hard enough. In a few days, we will leave for Paris. There will be a training camp [prior to the competition]. Overall, I suppose our preparation is quite good,” he said at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (07/10) after the send-off ceremony for the Indonesian contingent.
Jonathan pointed out that badminton’s continued success in bringing home medals in the previous Olympics has become both a motivation and a challenge for the team, while expressing optimism that the athletes will give their best to win medals.
“This year, I think we have the same purpose and targets. Despite all of this, we will give our best and try hard to win,” he said.
Echoing a similar sentiment, Veddriq Leonardo, a speed climbing athlete, also stated that he is motivated to give his best shot, especially since the Paris Olympics is his first Olympics and the first one that features sport climbing.
“It must become our motivation to make it big and show that Indonesia’s sport climbing can compete with other countries,” he said, adding that he eyes a gold medal.
Another climber, Rajiah Sallsabillah, also expressed her determination to do her best in the competition to win the gold medal and bring glory to the country at the Olympics.
“Please wish us luck and support us so we can give our best in the Paris 2024 Olympics,” she remarked. (BPMI/AIT) (DH/EP)
